Flag Day is the commemoration of the adoption of the United States flag. On June 14th 1777, the first United States flag was made official with its 13 stars and stripes for the original Colonies. This flag would last for 18 years before being replaced with a 15 star flag.
National Flag week is always the week surrounding June 14th. A proclamation will be issued by the President declaring June 11th through June 17th as National Flag Week. All government buildings, and U.S. citizens are encouraged to participate by flying the American flag.
To prepare our friends, family and clients for National Flag Week, McGregor Insurance is hosting a flag exchange from Monday June 5th through Friday June 9th. The exchange is simple enough and helps to ensure that last year’s flags are properly retired. Here’s how it goes:
Yes, we like to keep our events that simple!
On the 9th we will be taking the flags, ready for retirement, down to the Ocean Shores Elks Lodge. They hold a retirement ceremony following the Flag Day Parade on June 10th at 3 PM which is open to the public.
In true Ocean Shores fashion, a wonderful parade is hosted on the Saturday closest to Flag Day! This year it will be held on Saturday, June 10th, and we hope to see you there! Our office staff will be walking the parade route prior to the start time to provide viewers with miniature flags that they can wave proudly as all the parade entries pass by on their trek down Point Brown and onto Chance a la Mer. We truly enjoy making Flag Day an event for our office, the residents of Ocean Shores and our clients near and far! If you are interested in exchanging your flag then please stop in.
